About
Hi, I’m Nafisa (Na-fee-sa). I am a Mental Health Therapist and first-generation Somali-Canadian. With two decades of experience in social work, my practice is grounded in trauma-informed care and a deep respect for your unique story. Growing up at the intersection of two cultures taught me the resilience required to survive and the courage it takes to thrive in relationships.
Moallim (MÅ-ah-lim) means teacher in Somali. I established Moallim Wellness to provide a gentle, safe space where mental health is de-stigmatized and your voice is honoured. I see our therapeutic work as a partnership where we uncover the wisdom already within you. I specialize in supporting couples as they navigate relationship patterns, build self-trust, and foster secure, healthy bonds. Together, we can create the space you need to feel empowered, connected, and loved.
Core Values
Moallim Wellness is founded on principles of inclusivity, respect for individuality, and honouring all identities. I practice from a justice-centred lens: pro-Black, pro-choice, pro-2SLGBTQ+, and anti-genocide. I support couples from all walks of life.
Moallim Wellness resides on amiskwacîwâskahikan (Treaty 6 Territory), a traditional gathering place for many diverse Indigenous peoples. With gratitude, I acknowledge the land I call home and the communities who have cared for it before me.
Couples Therapy
Couples therapy helps partners strengthen communication by teaching them how to express needs clearly and listen with empathy. It creates a structured space where difficult conversations can happen safely and productively.
Therapy is valuable during major life transitions, such as cohabitation, marriage, parenthood, career changes, etc. I support couples learn how to make shared decisions and highlight individual needs within their relationship. By improving collaboration and understanding, couples will learn communication skills to act as as a unified team rather than as opponents.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do you direct bill insurance?
Yes, I can direct bill to select insurance providers (Alberta Blue Cross, Canada Life, Desjardins, Manulife, etc.). Please confirm coverage prior to initial appointment. Many insurers accept psychotherapy services provided by a Registered Clinical Social Worker.
How can we see you?
I offer in-person sessions in Edmonton and/or virtual sessions throughout Alberta. I offer weekend (Sunday) and evening (Monday/Tuesday) availability for flexible scheduling.
What if I've never been to therapy?
I work with many people who have never attended and/or don't believe in therapy. It can feel embarrassing or shameful to let a stranger into your personal business and I'm well-versed in ensuring we move at your pace.
Before our first session, you will receive an intake form that explains consent and confidentiality. This is also an opportunity to share your your therapy goals and relationship history.
During the sessions, I will guide you with exploratory questions to gather relevant information for our work together. I will also direct you in real-time conversations with your partner to help you practice vulnerability, and provide supportive feedback and modelling.
